honest, its a real easy job, you'll be amazed at how clever and simple the axle is on a Jimny.
I struggled for ages the first time i did this with:
a) Getting the brake drum off
b) Getting the handbrake cable off the shoes
But
a) There are two little holes in the brake drum, so screw in some 'spare' 12mm bolts and the drum comes off
b) use a tie wrap around the end where it goes into plate and its simple.
HTH?

When we done my rear wheel bearings we left the brake shoes in and disconnected the hand brake from the Y joint under the car (obviously remove the clamps that hold the cables to the chassis etc).
If your only doing it to remove the diff you dont need to disconnect the handbrake cable like maverick said.

Thanks all for your info, its very much appreciated.
Just have to find a diff now. Any suggestions for a reliable source for this part
thanks
Ps Had a bit of a steering wheel wobble so went underside and tightened up a few bolts
but put a few turns on a tie road end and wobble seems to have gone, happy days and fingers crossed

Just reading through the thread again, whats the likelihood of the flange nut being loose.
Would it be a matter of just unbolting the prop and see a large nut to tighten???
Would be great if that's all it was
