Apparently they do need to do the swivel seal as well, and the whole lot will only cost 70 or 80 from Suzuki. The mechanic did say that he's used the big Jimny ones before and they do wear out quicker...? Not sure about that, but if the whole lot needs replacing I'll just let em do it.
He is just bull shitting you. All garages do. They want to make as much profit as possible.

My original Kingpins that I replaced were Koyo ones, I have the BigJimny ones in now, no issues. The swivel joint seal is a dust seal, not an oil seal like on a Land Rover. It's not a requirement of a kingpin change to replace it. I've done both kingpins on my car and not replaced either swivel seal. If I'd read what was posted here and the garage kept that story up, I'd take my car and trade elsewhere. (actually, I'd do it myself, I did both in an afternoon...)
Exactly. Does the mechanic own a Jimny and has he compared both makes? I doubt it.

The mechanic will fit the big jimny ones if I prefer. But he said he's fitted them several times before to his sister's Jimny, and they've always needed replacing by next MOT. Then last year he fitted the suzuki ones and they were still fine this year.
He said the swivel seal needs doing as well as the half shalf seal. When I asked why as it's only a dust seal he said something like oil gets from the half shaft seal out past the swivel seal...? Didn't really make sense. But they've told me before when stuff didn't need doing so I don't think they'd be out to con me - maybe just erring on the side of caution and replacing it all while they're in there.
Does the swivel seal wear, and does replacing it make any difference if it is just a dust seal?
Cheers.

Spoke to the garage again today and they're going to do whatever needs doing with 45 quids worth of Suzuki parts - I assume that doesn't include the swivel seal, but I'm not bothered about that. I'll see what the result is like, and maybe do the other side myself.
