when i was in the garages a number of them used engine flush in cars with vw we used protec and others we used fortie both said on the cans and in the trade leaflets that they cleaned sicking oil control rings which were clogged with dirty think oil ,the trade uses them more now as people will not change there oil propoley nower days as people don't read there owners hand book it tells them when the oil has to be changed and if they do stop start type driving or short runs you half the oil change and also it is don on time or milage which ever comes FIRST , all of my customers have it done propoley and there engines are spotlessly clean , the oil is the life blood of the engine so you need it clean which gives better mpg etc ,one customer with a vauxhall corsa 1.2 burning oil once i had put a flush though it and now it has had 2 oil changes it dose not burn oil
I used a forte flush in mine run for a few day till the week end to do an oil change ended up taking the head off and putting new shells and rings on. There are 5 or so holes in the oil scraper ring grove each side on the skirts side of the piston and thay was all blocked. Flushing is a wast of time and money its a con iv never seen and difference using it and not iv strained old oil through body shop paint filters and about the same amount of crap came out with or without a flushing

i'm pretty sure the flushes won't remove any hardened deposits . when i've used em they just seem to thin the oil a little and i'm assuming any sludge will be emulsified and come out too. may be wrong though. like i said though i'd only use a flush on a car that i didn't know. after that just regular oil and filter changes.
Hi Folks ,thanks for everyone's input , I've only given the engine a flush as it had looked like it hadn't had a service for a while and the oil was pretty black, New oil and filter and other bits adjusted ,replaced ,and the engine is lovely and smooth .
