I've got jimnybits rear shock mount guards. I hit a tree stump whilst off roading, it made a hell of a noise and I thought I'd done some damage. Got underneath and checked it, the gaurd had taken all of the impact and made a mess of the stump in the process. It was slightly bent over, but it did it's job. I have absolutely no doubt if I hadn't had it on there It would have ripped the mounting off!

It'd be in the mms. Theres a hole cut out on the bottom of the plate and where the diff drain plug it sticks out slightly. I'll measure it tomorrow but I've lost probably 3-5mm ground clearance - not a big deal for me as I'm getting bigger springs in the front tomorrow anyway

Better to lose a few mm than to not put it on. If this plate ever takes a hit it'll be nice knowing that if it wasn't there, it would've been a direct hit to my diff.

Youve lost 3-5mm under the diff but ALOT under the rest of the axle, it is good to have the piece of mind tho!!

Bigger springs wont increase your under diff ground clearance .......................only bigger tires or portal axles will do that ;)

I can see why you'd want to protect the diff, but why does the plate need to be 6ft wide? For most of the width it's robbing you of clearance by protecting 2 inches of fresh air. It just looks like lazy design and engineering to me.

The lowest point of the vehicle is differential, so it must be protected. I tried to show the principle of the distribution of forces in the sketch attached. The size and thickness of the shield is calculated to take the shock of up to 5000 daN.

Your guard is this shape: ______
The the axle is this shape: ===O=
Why not make it this shape: - - -._.--
It can still mount the same way, be just as strong and it gives loads more clearance either side of the diff.
