Recon it would be near impossible to "winch" using a ratchet strap, not enough leverage on the ratchet.
Tirfor winch is the way but their not cheap either or particulaly small, think any winch is pretty useless without a land anchor as you know the time you need it there wont be a useable tree in site.

ive had to deploy the land anchor a few time not so much lately but up the plain I wouldn't be with out it no tree in sight im getting excited and want to go get stuck now shame the jimnys broken again

That winch is sort of a good idea if you get stuck where you can get to it, think it would be a playday devise only as i wouldnt want to try and use it in a lane

Thought you were ment to dig a hole attach your winch rope to y spare and bury it as a ground anchor Really bollocks to that X eng Anchor gets my vote

I was about to say that about the spare wheel but then I thought of the prospect of digging the hole!.. xeng is the lazy but logical solution!
