1 of the things on my to do list is get some rust protection sorted once the weather gets better, so where's the weak spots? And any recommendations for what to use eg- hamerite, red oxide and paint, waxoil, bed liner or any other ideas? And spray on or brush on ?

I was lucky, got mine in the summer. My other half did all the underside with black Hammerite. (wheels off, exhaust dropped at the back to get to the the boot well, probably the most important area to do.

Looks cool and a quick hose down the dirt drops off

I'm not a Big Jimny regular but signed in after being tempted by a Jimny again and spotted this.

I may not be a Jimny expert but rust prevention I'm certainly well versed with as a classic car nut.

Anyway, POR15 is excellent. You can buy it from Frost. Or Dinitrol in it's various guises is good too. You just have to ensure you buy the right product for the type of area/metal condition you're treating and prep it properly.

Hammerite has little elasticity so tends to flake off under flex or impact far quicker. If you do choose Hammerite you just have to keep a closer eye on how well it is lasting.

Matt.

Isn't por15 for use only on bare metal? Never used it but been told it's fantastic stuff, does it flake and crack with impact etc, I'm not a big hamerite fan think it's very over rated.

What's dinitrol?

There are a few threads on under sealing could be worth a search.
I have to say I also did mine in the 'warmer' months after a good clean & touch up with Hamerite followed by Waxoil hth ..... ;)
