I use a etch primer then a 2 pack gloss black on a lot of stuff and if needed throw in a high build primmer if I need a really good finish that's on new stuff or no rusty surface, for bits that are going a bit rusty I clean it up as mush as poss then hit with a rust converter then same as above but im not professional painter but I know the basics and can paint stuff properly if needed

Thanks for all the input.

The items are rock sliders so not too worried about a first class finish, just want it nice and smooth.
I have a couple of cans of Rustolium satin black but it does dry with a gloss finish, hence the satin black spray to 'deaden' it a little..
Just off to 'Google' Por-15.

Check out Youtube for POR-15. Lots of good videos showing the prep and final finish.
