I knew this law was coming, and it's one of the reasons I bought a Jimny when it came to new car time.
IMHO car safety is hitting the law of diminishing returns, and the most important safety feature in a car is someone who can actually drive.
I have a friend from Germany and (apparently) you actually have to be able to drive properly to get a licence compared to Australia where if you buy one you get one free.

I've driven for 30 years with drum brakes, no booster, lap only seat belts, no air bags ETC and haven't died yet. I'm by no means a great driver but I have one trick, when I drive I only drive. I don't update my book of faces, twitter my verse, sat my nav, or doodle with my DVD.

+1 Had a few run-ins lately with drivers that I purposely pass because they seem to unsafe and I don't want to be stuck behind them when they make a mistake.

Bairns?

Bairn is an old Scottish/Northern English term meaning "babe" or child. Although the term chiefly means infant, it can be applied to any child who has not reached puberty or adulthood.

should maybe also clarify that I'm not an OAP (20 years to go)

but by then there won't be any OAPs we'll be OAWs (Old Aged Workers), providing there's still any work :S
