I've got a detachable winch ,which sits in its cradle with 2 handles
It slides into a reciever with a locking pin and connects to a Anderson plug
I have this set up on the back aswell so if I'm stuck and can't go forward it takes 2 minutes to change over to the back
I have the same setup on my sj and I'm about to do the same on my disco too .
Plus this way you don't have to carry all thar weight about when you don't need too ie trials.every day use .
Rear set just like the front

Yes I have always wanted a winch cradle setup, but I found it very hard to find a reciever fit to go on the front? Where did you get yours from? Or did you fab it yourself? Because they are hard to track down, and also are the electric wires longer enough to reach to the back? I have a rear towbar but I could always take that off. Thanks for your help.

Of course you can use a standard electric winch, even if you front is down in the mud. Just make a point to attach the winch hook further back, just like all the comp trucks have it. That way, your winch is always usable.

Does anyone have any experience using these hand winches and grip hoists? And are there any other alternatives?

What so you pull yourself out sideways? At 90 degrees to where your car is?

I bought my cradle and winch together ,I think most of the big winch boys do them if not i can pm where I got mine from .
As for the wiring I bougt a big length about 7 years at the time cost me about 150 squid .i would hate to think how much it cost now, did 3 cars with that and have enough do do 2 more.
I know it will cost a little bit more to do this setup but I like it and its served me well .
I do fancy carry a tirfor in the disco just waiting for the right one at the right price on fllleeeee bay .
