Tirfor/griphoist/hand winches was created by Teds Jimny
I was originally going to buy a standard electric winch, however it's not always useful having a winch on the front, in fact the last 2 times I have been stuck, I have been nose in to ditches etc so a winch on the front would be no use here. Does anyone have any experience using these hand winches and grip hoists? And are there any other alternatives?

That's hustle though and requires a lot of expensive snatch blocks!

you could get a towball mounted winch and the with a towball mounted at the front and the rear you can winch either way
see the one on the Goodwinch website under 4x4 winches
www.dborc.co.uk/goodwinch/
he does hand winches as well - £150 though!

Thanks, pretty useful site, and yer it's £150 for only 1.5 ton pulling power, even the 3 tonne winch wouldn't really be enough though wouldn't it?

I ment the 2.5 tonne probably wouldn't be enough, and the next one up is 5 tonne at £299
