Here's my 2cents.
In The Peaks they are 'considering' closing TWO lanes, sadly both are currently Bywas (B.O.A.T.s) as the anti's (Local and Ramblers) don't like huge numbers (sometimes convoys of 10 or more) creating havoc .. sadly, we all know that 95% of the 4x4 community are not these people, but as ever its the minority that causes more harm to the majority!
The TWO lanes they are 'considering' closing are :
1) Chapel Gate - its not the same since they graded it last year - which was reopened after the Trail-riders took PDNP (Peak District National Park) to the High Court and the High Court grsatned in favor of the 'whole community' which is EVERYONE, not just walkeers!!
2) Stanage Edge - this Byways is also wanting to be graded by PDNP, but they need to get permission to spend £270,000 (which of course they don't have in their back pocket) to grade it ....
Of course grading lanes IS NOT the answer -- as over time (2-3yrs) the grading gets washed away by the UK Weather, so PDNP will need a bloody good argument to grade and consider closing these lanes!
All this considered there are (get this) 15,000 (yes, fifteen thousand) Bways and UCRs (UnClassified Highways) known to Derbyshire Highways Departments ... i personally plan to find them all, register them and drive them ... Starting 9th June 2013 - it could be a long day!!
I do immense research with each County Council and the PDNP in advance to each/every visit for Green Laning -- I implore that anyone do the same!

I have driven both lanes and I would say they are the best in the aera by a long way .as it is is it not a case that its the walker that are walking down the middle of a road all be it and unsurfaced one , HOW DO THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMPLIAN about anything .I have shot rifles as long as I have been able to shoot over 40 yrs and becauss other generally ilinformed people that is under threat too
