Why would anyone use 4WD on tarmac?

I Corfu I did when I hired a Jimny. When it rained, the roads in the rural areas where deadly because if all the olives that had spilled out of the groves into the roads which mixed with the rain water.

A few times on the hair pin bends the back would step out so 4x4 was essential :woohoo:

I only said it because a lot of 4WD vehicles can be used in 4wd permanently but the Jimny does not have a centre diff. so you get "wind up" as all the friction on the tyres fight each other and can cause damage to your transmission. As the car is new to you and, other newbies have done so, it was worth mentioning. You can use it in snow etc on the road though :)

Ah, I see... Although the Jimny's new to me, driving 4WD's isn't. I used to go to Tong quite a bite when I was much younger :)
