That is the right idea, apart from the colour, (but that is personal taste).
The tax (VED) took a hike on !st March 2001 (when Y reg started) so if you are looking at cars of that age get an X plate, the hard tops got the twin cam engine then.

There is a buying guide on here, but as already stated, the big problem is rust, mechanically apart from the kingpins, which are always gone (they go about 3 months after you change them) Jimnys are fine.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Welcome along!
Wealth of information on here...

Worth noting that although Jimnys are awesome fun they are going to feel a bit agricultural after a Pug 206. They don't handle well and are rather noisy and bumpy and it only gets worse if you start messing with suspension and tyres.
They are an absolute hoot to drive though! :silly:

I don't want to put you off (the more buyers on the market the better for me!) but its worth bearing in mind.

Ollie, welcome along.

I'm reasonably local being the otherside of wolverhampton to you.
What prices are you looking at?

I'll keep an eye out for you on the trader.

I'm thinking of selling mine soonish (a mint 04 plate) might be a bit out of your price range... Im looking at 90's or Wranglers to be a bit different ;)

Hi and welcome to Bigjimny ;-)

I just got a 206 for a weekend runabout as my jimny is ssoooooo thirsty but heavily modified and heavy.

I like the 206 as it's £30 a year to tax, 60-70ish mpg, much quicker (1.4HDi) and is much more comfortable than the jimny. Yes it is French and not my first choice of car, but it was cheap, and they are simple to fix.
But now the Girlfriend has just pinched it after passing her test :pinch: :pinch:

As Kirkynut say's Only buy one that has seen tarmac, the jimny is a capable 4x4 off road, but playing off-road comes with a high maintenance price.
