Hi there im Ollie, ive just signed up,
I do not yet have a jimny but going to be getting one within the next month when my insurance runs out on my current car a Peugeot 206 (terrible thing) and i have a no claims discount. I have a few things planned for the jimny i get, list as follows:
Raised a few inchs
Nice big alloys
Chrome Bull bar
And a few spotlights
In all honesty im not going to be doing any serious off roading, at the moment anyway, i do want have a couple of runs down a few of the less demanding green lanes but apart from that nothing else really planned....
Im sure this forum might change this idea,
Is it wise when buying a jimny to buy one that has only been used for on road use or is buying one that has been used off road fine aswell?
Also is there anything that i need to look out for when going and looking at them as a sign to stay away?
Cheers,
Ollie

I would definitely look for one that has only seen tarmac. Ones that have been offroad will have been through water and muddy water at that! It causes rust and seized brakes, worn bearings & bushes etc.
How handy with the spanners are you and are you willing to have a go at DIY mechanics? There are numerous things to look out for that are easy fixes but could barter the price down, such as kingpin bearings. There's plenty of support on here.
I'm on my phone so can't link you to previous posts with buying advice but have a search, Google is better than the search function on here.
It's mainly kingpin bearings and rust though.

Ive never really tried any proper DIY mechanics, most complicated thing on a car ive ever done is unclipping my exhaust when it decided to fall out of the manifold (joys of french cars) hoping to not have to deal with things like that on a suzuki. Im a reasonably practical person and if i get stuck i have a few mechanic mates who should be able to help. ANd im sure you guys on here will be able to help

Road going Jimnys are quite reliable, save a bit of death wobble, again, have a read on the forum or search.
There is an early model Jimny in my partners family that has even been through my hands that is running fine still and was bought new by my partners mother. So thats testament to their reliability!
Where are you in the UK. There maybe someone on here that is knowledgeable and willing to view any potential purchases with you.
