Automation gone mad!

Looking forward to seeing the apology letter from the dvla when you get it!

What's your response going to be?

You will not get an apology from them, they never admit anything.

1. They will state you should have obscured the plate with black tape etc to stop it being read.

2. When you demand to see the "photographic evidence" as it will show the car is on a trailer they will suddenly write back to you and state that they have reviewed the case and in the current circumstances will not be progressing with the prosecution at this time (ie. still not admiting guilt).

I have had this twice.

Once when my daughters car was "caught" for a Box Junction violation in Birmingham (we live in Reading). I wrote to DVLA on behalf of my daughter who on the day in question had just completed a night shift at Heathrow. It was therefore impossible for her to have been in Birmingham at 10:00am on that day (most teenagers do not know that there is a 10 o'clock in the morning as well as one in the evening).

I requested the photographic evidence, they replied it would not be made available unless and until we went to court. I replied that that would be ok but they would have to be prepared to look silly in court when they produced a picture that would clearly not be my daughters car. I got a mail back saying they have reviewed the case and in the current circumstances will not be progressing with the prosecution at this time.

The next time was when I sold my last car. A few weeks later I got an automatic fine for not informing DVLA of the sale. The fine document had a different registration on it from the car that I had sold, but had the same date of sale. I wrote to them stating I had never owned a car with that registration and anyhow, how come they had the date of sale correct if I had never informed them of the sale?

I worked out that the car was the car that I had sold but the new owner had changed the registration immediately and the stupid DVLA computer did not match up the transactions. Again they wrote back stating they have reviewed the case and in the current circumstances will not be progressing with the prosecution at this time. Again no admiting fault.
