If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Anything that goes inside the car must not smell.

Underseal will smell for weeks.

I sound proofed the whole rear of a mitsubishi colt I used to have. Including the floor pan of the boot and both rear arches.
First a layer of the stick on noise damping sheets (like Dynamat but I used much less expensive stuff)

And then a layer of foam noise barrier a bit like this
www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/sil-isolator6-b...ator-6-9-sheets.html
It took a day and quite a lot of swearing to get it all in but it did reduce road noise quite considerably
There are loads of different options on materials.

I would avoid the paint on stuff as it takes a while to dry and smells quite bad apparently.

Go back to 1977, attend loads of punk and heavy metal gigs for at least 15 years until you start to suffer from hearing loss.

given that the boot floor is prone to rust is it a good idea to cover it with self adhesive sound deadening? Wouldn't it just trap any moisture and make it rust out of sight?
