Just a couple of bits of advice, if your heading up the Tees Valley. The farmer from Greenhills to Lingy Hill is a right angry git, he insists on blocking the track with feeders and confronting people using it. he blocks their path and denies it is a right of way even though he knows it is. One of the gates was broken and could not be opened last year but it may be fixed by now but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
The Tyne head lane from NY774 364 used by bikes is un-passable by 4x4 though there is no 4X4 TRO on it. The entry off the B6277 is straight into a peat bog and at one point it runs along the edge of a cliff making it very dangerous. I know it was attempted two years ago and it took all day to get the vehicles out, the whole road had to be blocked so the 4x4s could be winched back up onto it.

If you want to go Ian you can jump in with me, no prob

Yeah it would be great if you could go in some capacity Ian. Even though I am planning the route I have never done any of these lanes before and local help would be invaluable. Be good to meet up again too

Anyway it looks like we will be doing a route encompassing: Barnard Castle through Middleton in Teesdale area then up to the wear valley.
I'll start a list then:
