got a better idea of what im looking for though
goodwinch is going to be too expensive for what i need and that superwinch are better quality than i first thought. also warn winches are lovely looking bits of kit!
Superwinch and Goodwinch are of equal quality. Both made in China though.
Warn are great winches. But with you budget, You'll only be able to buy the Tabor winches from Warn. They are at most of same quality as Goodwinch TDS / Superwinch winches, but more likely they are inferior in every way.

only to drewl over warnhave you ever heard of winchit winches?
Yup.. well have heard of them. They look like the same cheap stuff like winchmax and others in that pricerange.
Probably good enough for recovery from a bog, if you've got all day. But I wouldn't use it for winching up steep slopes. I wouldn't trust the brake in it. But just my opinion.
