As well as looking out for rust and checking for the 'death wobble', check that the 4WD works as it should. Also, with the car stationary put it on full lock either side and check to see if the swivel joints are dry.

Check the stereo works nice and loud so that you don't have to listen to your passengers screaming in abject terror when you go off road. :laugh:
