Jimny on road tyres vs RWD car with snow tyres? was created by Sandspider
Hi all
The weather got me thinking - which would be better to get about in snow and ice?
1) A Jimny in 4wd on road tyres
2) A Jimny in 4wd on ATs
3) A rear wheel drive car on snow tyres?
Just wondering what has more effect - 4wd, or tyre choice? (And I'm guessing the best option would be a Jimny on snow tyres, but considering the amount of snow we actually get I couldn't really justify a whole other set of wheels and snow tyres)
Cheers.

My J got up a steep snowy hill yesterday (about 25-30°) on Duellers.
Needed a bit of beans on the throttle though

Mud tires or AT's, and Jimny in 4x4 will beat every "incompletely driven" car in snow and ice, no matter what tires they have.

This probably wont go down well. Winter tyres make a huge difference to a regular car, both pulling away and more importantly stopping (i pulled a couple of stuck landrovers out of a ditch last winter with my honda civic). However ground clearance becomes an issue with a normal car at which point a jimny comes into its own. As regards to winter tyres i leave mine on all year on the jim with no detrimental effects, they are also good on wet grass and gravelly tracks. Let the slating begin.
