Reason for low roof rack limit? was created by steelman57
Just treated myself to a brand new Jimny.
Why is the roof rack limit so low? (30kg incl bars). Is it because the roof / rails are weak or is it to do with stability issues?
Anyone carry Kayaks on their Jimny? My heaviest one would be about 3kg over the weight limit.
Love the jimny so far - looking forward to some snow!
Cheers
Colin

Surely that is just the plastic cowling and the bar that actually bolts to the roof is steal/alloy?

Nope, the two ends of the roof rails (steel pipes) plug into the plastic "heads" of the roof rails, which are bolted to the roof screws.
There is an option to buy the rails and rail ends both made from stainless steel, I know I've seen them somewhere on the internet, of course outrageously priced (around 300 GBP if I remember correctly).
