this link had thicker cables on as recomended by the 'master of overkill' kirkynut :)

had mine professionally fitted as I wanted all the wiring to the second battery checking out

So, my reputation procedes me eh?

Have a poke about on Winch Solutions website and see if there is anything of use on there also.

The only thing when buying the cable by the metre is that you also have to buy the big crimp on terminals and have a means to crimp them satisfactorily. I have access to a big crimping tool for these terminals so I'm alright Jack!

Can anyone else advise on how to crimp properly without one? I can't see a vice doing a very good job.

Crimping tools for that size terminal are not cheap!

Kirkynut

Crimping is not needed. My cables are soldered into the terminals. Yes, it takes a lot of heat and a lot of tin, but gives better connection than crimping. And stronger. Keep in mind though, not too much heat on the rubber

Like this:

Just without these pellets, but with regular solder tin.

Don't bother with the Winch Solutions website, it has changed now they have moved over to Warrior Winches and is rubbish! They used to sell cables pre made in useful lengths but don't now and the website has no ordering facility or prices, so it appears you have to phone them to buy anything.

Back to Vehicle Wiring Products and doing as the guys have suggested above then!

Now thats a cable!

I have spoken to a seemingly very knowledgeable guy at Arbil the UK importers of Warn. The guy reckons 35mm is perfectly fine. Its what they would fit to run to the back of a 90 in a rear winch set up so a Jimny winch on the front is fine.

I'll still probably go 50mm to be safe mind.
