Thanks Darth. Not cheap for cable! Yikes. Better that than a expensive bonfire I suppose.:p

I used 50mm2 welding cable for my winch, and best thing was I got it free on a job at work :-) Also a good auto electrical supplier will have a 500 amp mega fuse and isolator switch.

Rub it in eh! A mate offered some 35mm for free but I think I ought to go bigger. A inline fuse and isolator is a good idea too.

35mm2 cables might do it most of the time. But if the Jimny gets stuck into a bog with mud over the headlights, and only the winch to get you out. You'll wish you put on bigger cables :-)

So, my reputation procedes me eh?

Have a poke about on Winch Solutions website and see if there is anything of use on there also.

The only thing when buying the cable by the metre is that you also have to buy the big crimp on terminals and have a means to crimp them satisfactorily. I have access to a big crimping tool for these terminals so I'm alright Jack!

Can anyone else advise on how to crimp properly without one? I can't see a vice doing a very good job.

Crimping tools for that size terminal are not cheap!
