A soft top question or two! was created by Jimnyash
OK, so thanks to the helpful folk who answered my earlier question, I know all about the engines of the Jimny.
My next questions are regarding the soft top version.....
I've viewed a couple and, maybe I've been unlucky, but they seem to have a number of problems:
They split on the edge of the sunroof section, about 3" from the windscreen
The part around the back of the bodywork where the velcro is attached rusts like mad
The snaps corrode and break off
Is this true for all/most or have I just been unlucky with the ones' I've seen?
Also, how practical is the rear door? Is it a hassle to undo seeing as the top half is (by the looks of it) zipped to the roof. If I get a soft top, the back doo will be used a lot, so don't want to have to faff around with it!
I hope these questions make sense, and hopefully, you guys will be able to answer them.
Thanks in advance.

The sunroof section does split, it goes a bit brittle and the break where they fold... If you looks after them and keep them treated they stay soft and don't break.
Mines not rusty near the velcro, velcro is pretty rubbish but the bodywork is fine.
The clips do break, they are only a couple of quid to replace one and they are just 2 screws.
You don't need to unzip the whole section it just unpops from the boot and then you can open the door. but its still a bit fiddly. The later version with pop studs are meant to be better but I've not used one.
If you are using the boot a lot it will definately irritate you. I hardly ever use the boot, much easier to sling things on the back seat.

Dropping the top isnt a big deal with practice its a 2min job and driving with the top down is a hoot

im happy with my soft top. stud fasteners do break but the velcro holds it in place fine it never rains in and the heater is brilliant even in snow no draughts as for opening the boot / back door its not worth it for the size it is ! unless you want to put a newspaper in ,
