Help me fabricate recovery points - welder wanted. was created by goatboy
Calling all Welders!
So I'm after getting some recovery points on the front of my Jimny.
Now I know what people normally do is change the bumper or weld some plates on that stick out of the standard bumper.
But I really don't want to do that. What I would like to do is set-up a system where as I can get some fixing behind the standard bumper to allow me to screw in a couple of towing rings when I am offroading and take them out when I'm not (this sort of thing).
Then I would be able to drill a couple of holes in the standard bumper which I could just put rubber grommets or something in when I don't need the recovery points.
I know its been discussed on here a couple of times but I don't think anyone has ever gone ahead and made it work. Doesn't sound too hard for the person with the right skills. (example from an old ford anglia below)
So the question is, is there anybody on here who would be able to weld something up for me who lives somewhere in the London/south-east/East Anglia/East Midlands region.
I'm happy to pay, obviously, and although I could go to a local welder I would prefer to get someone to do this who knows their way round a Jimny.
Any takers....?

for a jimny it would be a much simpler design ,get two stubs macined with. the correct thread then just weld them to the chassis bars.
the machining will be the expenseive part

a lot of cars with plastic bumpers have this arrangement eg mondeos, vws audis etc
couldnt you get a pair off a scrapper complete with the eyes for a couple of quid
bet you could cut them off with an angle grinder and then get a local welder to weld them on in exchange for beer tokens

The nuts could be welded onto some sort of cross member and made captive?
has a 2.5t SWL

So I got to thinking that this could work...
Wled on a plate similar to fingers ahs done here
But add on to the side some box section. drill a hole right through it and weld on the nuts from the above ring to the back side of the box section, bit like this...
What you think? Might need some bracing front and rear to make it really strong but it could work right?
