I'm almost certainly asking a stupid question !!
I'm new to the forum and keep hearing Rocklobster and I wonder what the benefit is in doing the conversion? Seems a lot of work so it must be beneficial, I just don't know why.
Please could someone educate me.

enables you to run larger tyres and also to reduce the speed of the low ratio .. this you can go slower and more controlled up / down steep slopes.

Not a silly question, I was asking the same thing a few years ago.
The standard Transfer box is ok but if you like to play seriously, then you want more engine breaking, to beable to run larger tyres and also to beable to run slower when in Low .. to give you more control (and reduce the chance of breaking something)

It transforms your Jimny when off road from being just ok to being really usable.
As has been said, the slow speed you can travel at due to the lower ratios makes it more controllable, puts less strain on components and makes it far more comfortable.
The engine braking caused by the lower ratios enables you to go down slopes slowly without the use of the brakes and is so much safer.
Climbs can be done slower and with ease rather than resorting to the old Suzuki momentum method of flooring it!
It will reduce wear on your clutch as you would have to slip it to compensate for the high standard ratios.
It has about 10% lower high ratio which compensates for bigger tyres.
They are one of the best mods you can do to a Jimny.

I have a 6:1 SJ T-Case (with 2 or 4 Low) conversion in my Jimny...
When in Low Box it basically it turns your 1300cc Jimny, into a 3.5litre monster.
In Low box i only pull away in 3rd or 4th - only use 2nd or maybe 1st when going down hill (no breaks, no clutch suffering ) ...
If you can afford it - do it!!
Only problem with a 6:1 Low box, is i can only do 15mph flat out in 5th... but the power low down is awesome.
