I took delivery of my K&N for my Jimny today. (For on road use only)
Took less than 5 mins to fit.
Just whipped out the standard air-box and panel filter, Made a 75mm x 60mm dia steel pipe/tube to couple up the original air intake pipe to the new K&N Tightened up the Jubilee clips.
Drilled a 10mm Hole for the Temperature sensor, (A Nice Push fit) in the side of the collar of the K&N
Job done.
Looks Well tidy- and sounds like my evo :woohoo:
I will knock up a stainless bracket to hold it up of the inner wing about 40mm and to hold it nice and sturdy.
If i need to put back the original airbox etc its 1 screw and 3 bolts, and 5mins of a change-over if that !!
And where the temperature sensor goes !!

Did you just do it for the noise or are you expecting it to be better in other ways?

Noise
+ it will probably give me a few more bhp's and maybe a few miles to the gallon.
I have owned several high performance cars over the years, and have always used K&N's sometimes with very good results, on the gained BHP's .
38bhp on the mustang with the custom filter alone
I still have tuned 5.0L V8 Mustang Cobra with K&N and custom exhaust thats 402 Bhp
and a 3.5L V6 Pajero Evolution thats got a K&N with a tuned Custom Exhaust also as well as a few other bits and bobs thats 320bhp.
Even my Volvo T5 Coupe is around 280bhp with a few mods and the K&N
But on a 1.3L low powered engine the gains will be minimal.
If the engine was around 80bhp its now around 83-84 may be more.(Cone filters generally give more cfm and bigger BHP) either way I had all-ready calculated / measured that the airflow from the panel filter can not exceed 420 cfm, but the new K&N can allow up to 880 cfm
The engine draws over 600cfm at 4000rpm (No filter or pipe attached). so the standard panel filter actually chokes the engine
The noise alone makes it worth it
When i get round to making a nice shiny stainless bracket to lift it up slightly, it will look good aswell lol:P
I could have gone all the way and fitted alloy pipes and tubes etc etc, and fitted a bigger cone, But
I chose the K&N i have specifically because - all i needed to couple them up was a small length of 60mm steel or rigid tube (Its the diameter of the air intake pipe) the collar of the K&N actually allows the original air intake pipe to sit inside the lip of it, Making it a PERFECT fit.
Its not an "off the shelf" K&N its from the custom range they do, They make 1000's and have a huge chart of dimensions and other things you can specify.

Ive got an ITG cone in the garage i might fit to mine, see if it makes any difference. They always feel faster when they make a bit of noise anyway lol.
Fitted a nice Pipercross RS500 cone to my Focus RS but i dont think it would fit in the Jimny engine bay lol.

I went with a standard filter on the jimny. I run a K&N on the TVR that gave me an increase of about 25 bhp.

TBH the Jimny engine bay gets too hot and that is bad for a cone filter and power (heat soak). If you do use one make sure you fit some ducting to get cold air. If your not going through big puddles then use the panel filter and get a hole cutter. Cut some 2" holes in the air box (make sure its the pre filtered side) and again use cold air ducting. Better improvements than a cone filter IMHO.
I had a modded ST24 (Bluefin chip, Janspeed decat pipe, Mongoose twin exit SS system, bigger TB etc etc. The KN cone was producing less power due to heat soak (dyno'd at Superchips), went over to the Pipercross Viper (has heat shield and ducting) and that gave a few extra ponies.
