quick update ... sorted thanks
did a full reset :ohmy:
and held my breath as wasn't sure if doing so would remove network unlock that had been applied (making it sim free)
worked a treat, phone is still open to any network and usb data transfer works a treat.
obviously something the local dodgy "phone shop" had done screwed things up :whistle:
