If you are buying the car to keep, then you are a new keeper. Fill in the green bits, sign the declaration and let the seller send off the rest of the V5.

'Motor trader' means someone who buys and sell cars, not just anyone in the motor trade.

I think you would just do it as if you were buying it as a personal car but you would register it in your name at the company address. So use the green section as you are not a motor trader as said above.

Make a written note of who you lend it to in case they get caught speeding etc as the notice of intended prosecution asking who was driving will come to you and you need to remember who had it on which day.

Also, ask to see their licence to make sure they have one and take a copy of it, both sides of the card and the front of the paper part. Then you've done all you can to ensure you don't commit the offence of permitting someone to drive your vehicle without a licence.

It may seem a pain when you are having to ask customers for it but it's a bigger pain when they crash your car, the insurance is void because they had no licence, the Police come after you for permitting, your insurance will pay out to a third party but will come after you for their money back via courts!

You have to look out for yourself these days!
