 the joys of plug-in-and-play

OK why not tell us the make and model of the printer and router, and what OS (windows version) you're using.

;)

Thought you'd never ask!
Canon PIXMA MG2950
Laptop uses W7
PC is on XP.
Printer is connected to the PC via USB as it has no WiFi and it I wanted USB connectivity.

TBH it puzzles me how a lappy can make a printer go on to a network cos it is a catch 22 situation cos the lappy needs to talk to the printer to tell it what to do and to do that the printer needs to be online!!!

Tried to download detailed instructions and the website address comes up blank.

Yeah, ain't that the truth. :(

There is some praise too, depends where you look. Amazon is full of negative reports. I think the problem is that the set up procedure is just too inadequate.

Just going to check the PM. ;) Cheers.

I have had a break from it today. It is a fine printer via USB and TBH my PC is not wireless anyway but I got it so I could print from other machines.

Wahay, success. :woohoo: :woohoo:

I contacted Canon and they pointed me to a FAQ which told me the button pressing sequence. This is not on the CD nor on the downloadable instructions!! Still no good though.

Then Googled about the Virgin superhub and they too have a button pressing sequence to get the hub ready, a nightmare in itself. Then I had to coordinate the button pressing on the printer with the hub and viola. :woohoo:

It's not simple like press button one (printer) then press button 2 (hub) - no wonder it gets moaned about such a lot. Grannies stand no chance.
