The laptop is probably already connected to the wireless hub for Internet access.
The usual way to set up a wireless printer is to use the "WPS" button on the printer and the wireless hub at the same time or to manually configure the wireless to connect to the hub using the printer front panel.
If you have a USB port on the printer you should also be able to connect it to the laptop this way to configure the wireless.
Personally I would use the manual method and also set the wireless hub to give it a fixed IP address so that the printer is always set the same on the network
Yes I am trying to get the printer to talk to the router. I am using the laptop to connect the printer to the router's network wifi-wise. It says the way to get the printer on the network is by using the CD that came with it which I have inserted into the lappy (the printer is USB linked to the desktop previously and desktop PC is switched off while doing this) as there is nothing that says there is a WPS button on the printer. Having said that there is a button next to the wifi LED. I assumed it was possibly a WPS button and tried pressing it then the button on the router.
I cannot seem to access a manual method - this may be where my skill set is inadequate - though I have tried various approaches like "add a printer" etc.
If the USB cable is used wifi is disabled as it won't run with both. At a point on install the CD asks to choose wifi or USB.
Cables are soooo much easier!
I agree Rob and they are faster but I can't see a way of making the printer available to two laptops remotely as it still needs linking to the network. There is no USB port on the router or I'd connect it by wire.
@ skeepers Not sure, but is there some kind of sync button on the printer itself like bluetooth? or is the printer software needing the router code for the wifi? f
Could be as there is a button next to it but there is nothing to say that is the function of the button. The printer software is very narrow minded, rather simple TBH.
