Just watched the Channel 5 show where they rebuilt a broken dilapidated Mexico. Looks like in one show it'll be a Landy. Getting back to my point, it brought back memories as I always wanted one and even put ¼ bumpers on one of my Escorts. In the end I finally got the RS2000 when it came out. Getting back to the Mex.......did you see the engine rebuild, phwoar I'd have loved a lump like that in my Escorts. I never really loved the Escort Mk1 shape but strangely I loved the Cortina Mk1. Getting back to the Mex...........those Mk1 seats were gross, genuine backache makers.
I watched that last week, it certainly brought back memories. I was more of a Capri man but my mother had a MK2 RS2000.
I was at Castle Combe a couple of years ago and a couple of Mk1 Escorts were thrashing everything there but they must have had £150k spent on them. I don't recall the engine builder that they used but I looked on the net and there was a used one going for £20K, an Escort to a similar spec was going for £80k. No idea of how much power but they were leaving tuned Scoobies for dead.
Was a good watch, still can't believe a dilapidated shell is worth 8k though!! Wonder what the car is worth completed to the standard they did it
My old man an my uncle used to build and race escorts 'back in the day' so everytime a program like that is on I end up watching it about 5 times over while he drools over the motors haha :laugh:
