Hi all,

Here's some detail of my Jimny. It's a 2006 I picked up 2nd hand in 2008; it had never been out of the suburbs. Since then, I've been hard at work setting it up (and using it!) as a scout-tourer to travel outback. Where possible I do building and servicing myself, unless it’s engine or driveline – I have neither the space, nor the confidence, to put my faith in it.

I try and do a 5-6000km trip each a year in it to enjoy being out and camping bush for a few days, and as many short trips in between as work allows :) It’s a good mix when touring, as it keeps the ability to find a path through obstacles, while having enough storage to remain self-sufficient when travelling and camping. It may not be the most wild, but all in all, I like it as it brings a smile to most of the others who ride in it who are now used to larger 4x4’s, and you don’t see many tackling the long tracks. I like taking on some of the more mud+step areas around NSW (which of course cover most of the damage to date) when on day trips, but on longer range solo stuff, you have to know when to take the easier route and keep going, vs dicking around and ruining the trip.

And I enjoy it, which is the main thing :)

Key mods are:
Outside-
• ARB bullbar with HID spotlights and UHF aerial
• 40mm lift
• 29” Firestone MT tires
• Hayman Reese hitch
• Under body add-on armour

Engine-
• Custom exhaust & headers
• Dual batteries
• ARB air lockers front & rear (& on board compressor)

Interior-
• UHF
• Cruise control
• Tyre Pressure monitors
• Extra rear 12v outlets wired to 2nd battery
• Scangauge trip computer
• In Car Entertainment mods (various – it gets tiring otherwise!)
• Rear table

Aside from those, there are all sorts of little jobs I’ve done, especially inside, to make it primarily a little more comfortable on long dirt drives – armrests, cubby holes and the like. Oh and an air horn to replace the tiny beeper

I'll post some pics soon

Hey up,

Do you want to do a house swap for a few months?

I'd love to see the 'Great Outdoors' you have there.

Oh well.......

K :(

I know the feeling - I left England and setup shop here, it's great to be able to drive off and visit some very interesting places.

Nice touring set up. First time I've seen an ARB bar in its intended surroundings. I like you location for the sockets and can I ask where you found the pockets on the tail gate.

Sure, they are front door pockets for a VW Kombi. Picked up off ebay, the dimensions are just right. The rear cubby worked out good for the outlets as it was a neat place to keep the distribution block and fuses, and still be able to get to them easily when needed.

Some great common sense additions there. Lovely truck, black ones are always better ;)
