Michael, 100% agree. Indigenous creatures need protecting. WCS traps not appropriate in your part of the world. Reds and Martens deserve their status.

I watched what a pest controller was doing about a mouse problem a couple of months ago
He was using the copies of the kness snap e trap.
Ive had both and the original version is better.
If you needed to use them outside there are bait stations available that fit these traps and should prevent non target species setting them off.

that's right, three reds at the bird feeder this morning. Dan thanks, I'll look at that trap.
Insurer has now authorised repairs, thats the good news, bad news is Suzuki say it will be well into January before this car is returned. Some of the parts have never been ordered and need to be manufactured they say, some are in Germany, some in Japan, Brexit is causing them issues as well apparently.

Brexit......
Suzuki is stopping cross border ordering (ie. dealer ordering from German warehouse) from tomorrow. Instead all orders have to be placed on UK warehouse and a back-ordering system will be used to retrieve items from Germany. This will add a further 2-3 days onto the current 2-3 days that European orders take.
There is a blanket price rise on all parts with effect from tomorrow of close to 6%. This brings forward the traditional new year price rise and also at an increased percentage.
They have until the end ot today to order at the old price and also order direct from Germany etc. before it is activated tomorrow.

That is excellent news that the insurance company will pay for the repairs. A pity about the wait, but then a lockdown and Xmas won’t be helping.
We had quite a few rats in our back garden earlier in the summer, we tried a few things but rat poison blocks sorted them out. Fortunately we could see where they were coming from (next door and then under our decking) so it was quite easy to put the blocks under the decking next to their runs and nothing else would get the poison. Bait boxes would be just as good, put one under the Jimny and it should work fine. The blocks we used smelt like chocolate and the rats loved them.
For mice old fashioned traps are better, they kill the mouse instantly and you can then throw the dead mice in to the bushes for a Fox.
Apparently mice and rats don’t live peppermint oil, put a few drops in a container or mix in solution and spray around the vehicle, the only problem is outside the smell goes quickly, but it does work.

Quick update.
Suzuki are quoting into February 21 for some of the parts delivery. Even these dates are not guaranteed. If I get this car back by Easter I'll be surprised.
Don't let this happen to you!

Just to conclude this thread, the Jimny is now apparently repaired and available to pick up tomorrow 19th February. That's several months off the road due to mice!
