Hi

Has anyone successfully replaced the factory fitted radio in the Gen4 Jimny ?

With seamless integration with the steering controls and fit into the dash console?

Details would be appreciated. I’m desperate to replace this nasty thing.

Thanks
Peter

In South Africa it is the 1.5 GLX. Same as the UK SZ5 model if I am correct.

It has the 7” touch screen with Android Auto/Apple Car Play. Photo attached

Best place to start is a fitting plate (there's one on AliEpress) and then take your pick from top of the range Kenwood or Pioneer. With a few bits from Connect2 you'll have a working system in no time. Chris

I see you and your car are in South Africa, I am in Australia, we use similar software in the Infotainment System. This software is supplied by Maruti in India through your local Suzuki Dealer at no charge. Maruti are including other minor software/firmware adjustments to the car through these upgrades.
See: www.bigjimny.com/index.php/forum/6-jimny...ftware-update#228036
I would recommend staying with the original infotainment system and free upgrades until the warranty is out.

Please note this advice is not for the UK/Europe market as a different company supplies the upgrades in these markets.

Curious. But what is actually your problem with the factory unit? Seems to work fine to me.

At a basic level yes, all of the individual elements do work.

My primary issue is that on start up the unit defaults to the radio function. This is irritating enough if you are in range of a radio station and get blasted with tunes. It get far more annoying if you are off road in the bush and out of range of a radio station, then you get blasted with a load hiss/crackle. Even less fun when you are parked two feet from an elephant

I never use the radio function. Only Bluetooth or CarPlay. Never have this problem in my other/previous vehicles.

Slightly less annoying is that the unit resets the call volume after a call.

The old advice of RTFM, the Folding Manual may be better replaced by RTPDFM, a newer PDF Manual, you can download manuals from here: www.suzuki-slda.com/_layouts/15/start.as.../Forms/AllItems.aspx There will be a method in the South African Manual to mute the radio. We have the same problem here, spooking the Kangaroos and Koalas.

EDIT: Sad news, no South Africa Manual on that page!! :( I will keep looking...

I have RTFM’d the radio manual that came with the car to death.

From what I can tell, I can only mute the entire unit and not just the radio function ?

My son, a phone geek, suggests the radio volume may be able to be re-set or muted from the phone before shutting down the car.

Matching the Manual to the Software Version will also help, so try a PDF Manual download from another Country with a 17** Firmware Version such as AUS/NZ (Region 10) or India (Region 1), the base programs for them are from the same source, Maruti.

I just put radio volume to zero. Not using the mute. That way when i put radio on it is at zero level. If i need to listen to music i crank up volume.
Having radio at lowest level do no influance level of phone etc.
Radio permanent on zero level when in the bush and all other sounds like phone still work as normal. Work pefectly for me.

It is very irritating that you can't just turn off the radio.
I also found that the generally more useable replacement for Google Play Music, You Tube music, doesn't work at all when you don't have cellular reception. So in some parts of South Africa you have to drive in silence (or static).
