winch was created by Daniel30
At some point I would like to fit a winch - not for winch challenges or anything like that just to get out of trouble now and then do I need to fit another battery etc? or would the standard battery cope with the odd use?
Cheers

The standard battery is ok for occasional winching or you could upgrade it to a slightly bigger battery for added peace of mind. I've got a 13,000lb winch and it works fine on standard battery

The standard battery may struggle to start the car when the car is older it is that puny!
You would need a bigger battery to have it as your one and only battery.
So you have three options really:
1) Find a battery that has enough CCA to power a winch for a short while to get you un-stuck on a green lane etc, where I assume you will be and can only get so stuck. This is by far the hardest option as there is not a great deal of space in the standard battery tray.
2) Get a second battery for the winch and a split charge system. Locate the second battery elsewhere.
3) Get a much larger battery for everything and locate it elsewhere.
To locate a much larger battery elsewhere you can buy from Jimnybits a Battery re-location tray - which I have got and it is very good quality. Click on my thread in my signature and have a browse to find pictures.

I have a Numax 1000cca battery. I am unsure of the model without looking but here is the range: www.tayna.co.uk/Numax-Leisure-Batteries-S284-1.html
You can see they are keenly priced and I can vouch they do the job. I winched all day in a winch challenge with mine once and it was still going well.
Mine hit the bonnet on the live terminal - not good! So I had to do some fettling to make it safe by cutting bits of the bonnet frame out but there seems to be more in the range now so a smaller one will fit lovely no doubt.
Yu will find your Jimny spins over so much quicker on the starter motor as the standard battery can only just cope. I've no idea what Suzuki were thinking. I suspect it came down to money and space.

Jalapeño, IISY?
I have a standard single battery on mine, and I've done Winch Punch Hunts - provided your engine is always running (revving nicely) whilst using your Winch, you'll be ok. I have a remote-fob for my winch, so I'm always inside when winching (foot on throttle).
Some people prefer two batteries - one connected to the winch and the other to the alternator and both batteries are wired up in series. The theory is that two batteries are better than one when winching.
I used to have a two battery setup on my old SJ413, but i've never got around to fitting a battery in the Jimny as there aint 'much' room to fit it - as the ABS gizmo is in the way, and I dont really want a battery inside the Jimny.
HTH?
