it is good to put an engine flush through them every so often and cleans out the oil ways and frees the oil control rings

If the engine has had regular oil changes with high spec oils there is no need to use a flush as the inside of the engine will be spotless. I just changed the sump on our 52,000 mile, 07 car and it was as clean as a whistle inside.
If you cannot vouch for the previous owners oil change habits, it may make you feel better to use a flush but modern synthetics and the latest modern mineral oils will do the job just as well.
As for "jonathan" post can you please and advise how a stuck ring which will be blocked with carbon will release it's self from the ring grove with 5 minutes of a run of flushing oil that does not get into the carbon in the ring grove to dissolve it.
Or can you provide some logic here jonathan that I am missing.
