Wrong snorkel template? was created by HUN

Nope. Just kidding.

I just had more trouble in the last 6 months with my gearbox than others in their lifetime. This week I will fit my gearbox 4th time...after a full reconditioning of the gearbox the input shaft oil seal was leaking. I have replaced all seals every time then refilled the box before went for a test drive. This time I changed the bell housing and input shaft also because I suspect the old one worn or might be damaged somehow? Regardless I'm prepared to take it apart again but with less effort than previously. At least refill will be easier...hence this 50mm hole. Rubber grommet is on the way!

Ahh, that's my dream modification! :woohoo: I wish someone near by could do it for me properly!
I guess you will need to separate the body from chassis to make a decent weld around the mating plates?

Make the flange faces so that they fit over the remaining stub on the body side, so a full 360 weld can be done on the internal faces and then grind flat to make the flange face..... That with an external weld to as much of the butt as you can get reach, will be bombproof.....

Hmmm, interesting!

Perhaps you could sketch up a template with reference measurements for others to get the hole in the right place? ;)

I'll create some template for that hole (I mean in the transmission tunnel ;) )
It will be something for drilling from the cabin rather than from tunnel obviously. I've already fitted the gearbox since my first comment. I'm thinking what could be used as a reference? I guess it will work for R72 type gearboxes only (2005 on)?

few hours alter...

It would be good to know if this hole position also suits for the old R7ME gearbox or not. I guess from now on I'm sticked with R72 forever :)
