So after the Jimny gearbox noise got too much for my "comfort" I took the SJ with actually more gearbox noise and much less comfort.
So thankful for this beautiful bunch actually coping with the slower uphills from my 45hk.
Having never driven it any offroad it handled very well there of course.
Not so practical as the Jimny and missed my little rear kitchen and charging and seats. But all in all just fun and smiles.
Very surprised it handled all the hills so well with the trailer, not surprised it drove 1400km or so with not a single problem.

Took the head out to swap the head gasket and other seals to stop the oil from reaching the floor.
The engine is the F10a from 1984. Got into issues when putting it back together as i did not take pictures during dismantling.
At first start up there was a bang so loud my ears was ringing.
First thought was the distributor was 180 off, but after checking and another try with an even larger bang,
I found the service manual had two columns and a two step instruction for the timing belt.
I only got to read the first step as there where so many letters and words and I was too confident in my abilities.
So step two in the service manaual below where it says to turn the cam 180 before putting the belt back in.
Had the head cover off to verify with the valves visually too.
With the cam in its correct 180 position it started just fine.
New oil, filter, NGK spark plugs, and yellow coolant.
Very rusty inside the engine block cooling orifice so most likely been stored for the twelve years it sat with bad coolant.
The blue coolant that was in it actually loose its rust prevention after two years "they" say.
Green or red is better, so i am trying the yellow now after a flush and rinse of the system.
Service manual:
Cam timing wheel
Next issue was the timing wheel with two sets of markings.
Found that the 83 and 84 markings are the number of lobes on the timing belt.
My timing belt was the 84. So the number on the timing wheel is the number of teeth on the belt.
top mark:
The actual timing mark is on the timing belt housing behind the belt adjuster.
impossible to see at first glance with the radiator still in the car and behind dirt and grime.
The point mark on the wheel and key on the shaft is to point down and not towards the top.
There is also a mark on the top wich correspond with the line on the timing wheel and not the point.
Bottom mark:
The crankshaft mark is more straight forward and also corresponds with the timing mark on the flywheel.
Hoping this post will show up on google for anyone having the same issues, i might add key words in here for later.
Drove the car to work today, runs good.
Still needs some fine tuning of the ignition timing, i have to buy or borrow a timing strobe.
