I agree with all of the previous comments regarding driving through water, but I have done a few crossings in my Gen 4 over the last 2 years, all with a snorkel fitted and nearly all with the breather kit. A couple have been up to the headlights and I haven’t had any water ingress anywhere or any other issues.

I have done most in 4WD and the deeper/longer in 4WD-L, keep the clutch out all of the time, take it steady and make sure the revs don’t drop to avoid a stall.

This is Busk Lane near Stalling Busk (near Hawes, Yorkshire) last year, it’s quite a long lane and the depth is fairly even, although the flow/current is quite low.

My driving/fog lights were definitely underwater on 3 of the half dozen crossings we did my mate waded all of the crossings in his wellies and only one did his socks get wet.

l didn't realise the Jimny only has a 12" wading depth.

My 2022 Defender had a maximum wading depth of just under a metre. l wouldn't like to test it out, although l've seen Youtube videos.
The problem is, if you stall in water that deep there's a good chance your vehicle will be a write off.
Okay for motoring journalists maybe.

It’s fine if you have a snorkel, the only things to worry about then are

the diff and TC breathers (which are 300mm) although should seal, but might let a little in if they were hot/open when you entered the water

the ignition coils might cut out, but with an engine up to temperature, there will be a lot of steam under there rather than water

the ECU, but if you are not there long, water won’t have chance to get in.
