Hi everyone, not sure where to introduce myself on the forum, so sorry if its the wrong place. After more than 30years pf Land Rover ownership I finally sold my last Defender and have bought myself a Jimny for a bit of confort and ease. Its a 2016 1,3 JLX petrol, in France, so luckily no rust issues. Ive always done all the work on my landys myself, and I like the idea of the Jimny cos from what I've read its a great little 4x4, has the mod cons that make it comfortable and isn't full of too much electronic rubbish making it impossible to fix at home. Got it yesterday and on the 5 hour drive back the clutch cable went, and the gearstick feels like its attached by rubber bands its so loose. So not the best start, but im hopeful. Was gonna post in the technical section presently. Thanks everyone, take it easy,
Barney

Welcome to the forum, my second spare jimny is also a 2016 but it's an auto. What you have described are 2 relatively straight forward repairs especially as you have had significant mechanical training being a former defender owner. Pop a specific post on about it and others will help with the parts and processes involved.

Temeraire (2018 quasar grey automatic)
One of the last 200ish of the gen3s, probably.
Bellerophon (2024 grello van daily
ADOS Attention Deficit Ooooh Shiny!

Thanks for that, im hoping they're easy fixes.. the four hours of driving I did do before the clutch went were great though, no death wobble, not too much body roll and it was actually comfortable   definitely not a Defender

Hi, welcome to the wonderful world of Jimny ownership.

It’s a pity about the clutch cable, I guess they can go at any time. I would imagine they are fairly straight forward to replace, but like all cars it probably involves grovelling around in the foot well.

I don’t remember any flex/slop in the gear lever linkages on my 2011 Jimny when I had it, but again I would imagine it’s a fairly easy fix.

For both problems you might also like to have a look in the BigJimny Wiki, just in case there is a ‘how to’ on there.

Finally what a good looking Jimny, certainly been magnetised and then driven past the accessories shop, I am sure you will have a lot of fun.
