2 of the Jimnys I've bought have been from vicars and both were gutless. After a week of "proper" driving they sorted themselves out. Buy a tank of premium fuel and drive it hard. Take the engine up to the red line regularly. Use the lower gears for longer rather than shifting up into 4th or 5th early like it's a diesel. Small petrol engines like rpm, so don't be afraid to use the whole range of the tacho.
