I've just been looking at the first set of pics again and I'm assuming that the wheels are in the straight ahead position. It looks like they are not evenly spaced across the width of the car? As in it looks like one side is further out from the arch and one is further under the arch? Can you see more tread looking down from above the centre of the wheel on one side more than the other?

Hi Lambert,

Yes I think the front and back wheels are shifted more towards the right hand side of of the car.

Am I correct in my understanding that this is because the car has been lifted and they have used the stock panhard rods?

I have wondered also if the fact that the wheels are protruding out of the front driver arch more means it is prone to rubbing.

Assuming that is a panhard rod issue, do people usually replace both the front and rear panhard rods to restore the axles to centre?

Yes, with the suspension design used on the Jimnys, if they are lifted the axles shift sideways relative to the chassis centerline, and for a right hand drive Jimny, both axles will shift right of center. For left hand drive, the front axle will shift left of center, and the rear will shift right.

Longer panhard rods can be used to "re-center" the axles, but this is just masking the problem, a better solution, if it's available, is a panhard rod relocation bracket - for a Jimny, these are available for the rear axle but as far as I know, not the front.

Interesting. So what do those with lifted Jimnys usually do then?

Install a relocation bracket for the rear alone and leave front as is?

Or relocation bracket on the rear and adjustable panhard rod up front?

Either one might be an option, depending on how much lift you have.

Mine is lifted 50mm as far as I can tell.
