Hey all,

I’m located in Australia and I have a May 2003 Japan build Jimny. It’s the m13a manual transfer case and the older style dash.

I’ve been trying to work out if there is a way to work out if this has obd2 support or not and I’ve been reading all the old threads but I just cannot work out if it should be ond2 or not.

I’ve only had this for about 3.5 weeks and I’m going over it and fixing up a few little issues and getting it straightened out before I start cleaning up the little dents and things on it.

When I first started investigating the diagnostics port - it was missing, tucked right up behind the stereo in the dash. I fished it out and got nothing on it.

I then worked out that the fuse for the dome light was blown, fixed that and I can get power out of a diagnostic reader but no connectivity.

Im starting to think they have played with the wiring quite a bit when someone did the stereo and I don’t know if I need to be chasing a broken or cut wire or non obd2 port.

Hoping someone may know by looking at the wiring if there is a way to tell what type of diagnostics it has?

build spec is:

M13a manual, manual transfer case, remote central locking (sourcing a replacement at the moment) air conditioning, air bags, has immobiliser (but no dash light)

and based on vin it’s gen 3 type 4.

also trying to work out if it has one or two 02 sensors as the cat doesn’t have one but the factory parts guide when looking up my vin specs two of them, so I am truly stumped.

thanks in advance!

Is it Aus new?
Could be JOBD?
OBD2 was not mandatory till mid 2000s in NZ / Aus.
Not sure if all OBD2 scanners (especially the cheaper ones) will read JOBD properly.

As for the O2 sensors, it should have 2, one on the back of the manifold before the cat, and one on top of the exhaust just before the 1st muffler -  unless it has aftermarket extractors. If they are unplugged / removed, it will trigger the engine light.
