Hi everybody!

I’m new here, and I’d like to say hi to all the Suzi lovers on the globe!

Yesterday I bought a 2000 Jimny, with an oil leaking engine, 200.000km. OHC, and hard to accelerate….(?) So reasons enough to look for another (DOHC) engine.
Since there are so many engins with VVT, (what my system doesn’t have) I was wondering, what would occure when you mount such an engine without plugging the VVT in….In my opinion it should be working ok, right?… Or; replace the 2 VVT camshafts for non VVT ones? That’s also an option, right?

Since this is not really my experience, I’d like you to look at this question, please!

Thanks in advance!

Mark

The engine can run fine without the VVT, it just won't adjust the timing when in reaches a certain RPM. So it will either have good low end power and less at the top end or vice versa, depending on what the default position is. Potentially you could wire up a switch to operate the VVT manually or via a separate control system, but the standard ECU won't know to adjust any other parameters when going from one mode to another.

Another simple workaround is swapping your non-vvt cylinder head onto the VVT bottom end.

The best and easiest solution still is to use the correct engine..
remember that many other suzukis have the same engine so depending on markets you will find a non vvt 1.3 or you can even find a 1.6 M16A from a liana or another suzuki. Wich i must say is a no brainer if you are going to swap anyways.
Not sure what is available in the Netherlands but you should be able to find a 1.6 somewhere?

Norway 2005 Jimny M16A VVT, 235 BFG MT, 2" Trailmaster, ARB rear lck, 17%/87% high/low gears.
