Last daft question… an aftermarket wiper motor is a vacuum pump if used the “wrong way round” ?

Good choice. Here's a video of my Jimny with a welded front diff and Quaife LSD in the rear. The turning circle on the gravel was exactly the same as a standard Jimny in 4wd, and it's much better when the terrain gets more tricky. You won't have any issues with manoeuvrability!
