Because of COVID my Jimny has been stuck in Cyprus, unused for nearly a year (I am stuck in the UK).
The Jimny was left in 2wd mode. My concern is that if the vacuum system is not working properly after not being used for some time (I understand this can be a problem), a) will it go into 4wd OK & b) if it does, will I be able to go back into 2wd mode or will I be permanently be stuck in 4wd? Please forgive my ignorance & lack of technical knowledge in these matters.
The vacuum is charged by the inlet manifold, so provided a seal hasn't perished or a pipe rusted through then it should charge up as soon as you start the engine up.
If one or both hubs are stuck then going in to 4WD the transfer box might engage but not the vacuum hubs and this will be shown as a fault.
If it goes in to 4WD it will most likely come out of 4WD.
The wiki has a great article on the 4WD system, when you get out there if you get a problem just check the symptoms against the wiki.
