Hello!

Need to replace my head gasket on my 2003 Jimny,  so apart from the complete head gasket set, and the Themostat , what is worth changing?

Hi,
Sorry but I don't know, luckily for me it's a job I have not needed to do on our Jimny, so I will be reading with interest.
In the good old days (yes I am old-ish) it was good practice to get alloy heads skimmed or at least checked for flat by a machine shop before you put a new gasket in. Those that have changed gaskets on here never mention this, so is it something not worth doing on the Jimny?
If nothing else I've bumped your question back to the top ready for those with a better insight into this engine.
Good luck with your endeavour.

When I had mine done at the garage I think it got a light skimming but I didn't do the job. Other than that I had by process of elimination replaced all the ancillary components related to cooling anyway. However I did end up needing a new front crankshaft oil seal as they tried to reuse the existing which it didn't like and because they took the motor out to do the clutch at the same time they also disturbed the heater matrix which started leaking and coincidence or not the starter motor also didn't like being interfered with. So with some warranty work and some additional work by me after the fact my head gasket and clutch change came in at about 1800 quid. The only saving grace was that when they were inside the motor they reported it was like new which is good at a hundred thousand miles.

sounds like more than a simple head gasket it's ether corroded or warped you won't know till you remove the head like other people on this forum have said the minimum you have to do is have the head skimmed but you have to check the whole cooling system if there is a folt you will cook the new head
It's not a simple job can be done at home apart from the welding and machining
need good tool kit inch lb and foot lb torque wrench + work shop manual
