Blocked cat is a good call, but could also be failing sensors.

X reg means it will have the G13 engine that I am not familiar with, no doubt others will know better. But on the newer M13 theres crank and cam sensors which fail and promote similar symptoms. I presume the G series will have at least one of these sensors.

A test for the sensor thats failing is to cool it when the problem appears (locate and squirt with water when having the problem). The sensor that responds to cooling is the one to replace. Use genuine parts for these sensors to avoid returning hassle in short time ;-)

To test if its the cat, its gotta come off to see and by the time its off you might as well bung a new one on...

I had a T reg 99 and the cam sensor went, causing these kind of problems, tbh they're so cheap I bought both, tried cam first and solved the problem, still have the crank shaft sensor somewhere...

Jimny exhaust Catalytic Converters are not to expensive
If it's the pre cat on manifold you can smash it out with a long screwdriver
It will still pass an mot
Take a look on ebay
