It depends what you are doing with the car? If you are wanting a commuter then you really don't need a lift at all. If you are trailering it to a quarry every weekend then road manners are irrelevant so lift it as high as you like. A body lift will only really give you room to fit bigger tyres but doesn't do anything for wheel articulation. A suspension lift if done properly will increase wheel articulation and allow for bigger tyres. The problem however is doing it properly. It is a slippery slope as a Jimny will take the biggest tyres is can without a regearing on the standard suspension so fitting a lift to have bigger tyres means rectified gearing and the bigger tyres will reduce the service life of wheel bearings and kingpin bearings, its also likely that you will need castor correction and longer brake flex pipes once you venture over 2 inches. Properly means expensive. And that's before you go for the better quality components.
